Why is a restaurant that’s been in Tampa for a decade still not open?
With a few months left in their lease, restaurant owners are struggling to get their business back on track.
It’s not an easy process.
In August, they found out that a new restaurant at the site of their old location would have to move out.
Now, it’s time to rebuild.
“I think it’s just a big step for me,” said Jennifer Leong, who has been the restaurant’s general manager since January.
She has been working to reopen the restaurant for nearly a year, but is still facing many challenges, including the fact that her existing lease does not allow her to open the restaurant until March.
“They have a lot of restrictions in their contract, so they’re very strict,” she said.
Leong is looking to find another tenant, but the odds of getting a lease through the city are slim.
“When you have a big contract like that and you have to do that all the time, it takes a long time to get a lease,” she explained.
“We’re doing our best.”
The Tampa Restaurant Association is currently working with the city on a plan to help reopen the Tampa Restaurant.
It’s hoped that the city will extend the lease and open the Tampa restaurant by the end of the month.
